The Chedi Andermatt

The Chedi Andermatt is a striking fusion of Alpine tradition and Asian-inspired luxury that genuinely stands out in the Swiss hotel landscape. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, the interiors blend warm wood, clean lines, and understated opulence in a way that feels both cozy and grand. The spa, wine library, and dining options (particularly the Japanese restaurant) are exceptional. Its location in Andermatt gives access to increasingly impressive skiing and year-round mountain activities. Where it truly excels is in creating a sense of calm sophistication without the stuffiness that plagues some Swiss luxury hotels. The main drawback is pricing — even by Swiss luxury standards, it's steep, and Andermatt itself, while developing rapidly, still lacks the village charm and infrastructure of more established resort towns like Zermatt or Gstaad. Service is polished but can occasionally feel more corporate than intimate.
