IBM deep consulting relationships and industry expertise create sticky enterprise accounts. However, market share tells a clear story: IBM Cloud is a distant competitor to AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud in virtually every public cloud metric. The developer ecosystem and third-party integration catalog are significantly thinner. Pricing can be opaque and uncompetitive for standard workloads. The platform sometimes feels like it is solving yesterday problems with today tools. For enterprises in banking, healthcare, and government with specific compliance requirements, IBM Cloud has genuine value. For everyone else, the hyperscalers are simply more capable and cost-effective.
