Diablo IV

product
Diablo IV delivers the dark gothic atmosphere and visceral combat that fans have craved since Diablo II. The open world of Sanctuary is beautifully realized, with oppressive environments and excellent art direction that recaptures the series' horror roots. The combat feel is superb — classes are distinct, abilities are impactful, and the build diversity through skill trees and itemization provides meaningful customization. The campaign is the strongest in series history, driven by Lilith as a compelling antagonist. However, the live-service model creates friction with the traditional ARPG experience. Seasonal resets, battle passes, and cosmetic microtransactions in a full-price game feel incongruent with the genre. The endgame has improved significantly through patches and seasons but initially launched thin. The open world, while gorgeous, can feel empty in practice. The always-online requirement creates unnecessary barriers. Diablo IV is an excellent action RPG at its core, wrestling with a monetization structure that sometimes works against its best qualities.
