EA Sports FC 24 is a competent football simulation trapped in a cynical monetization framework. The on-pitch gameplay has genuine quality — HyperMotionV technology produces realistic player animations, and the tactical options provide depth for those who engage with them. The breadth of licensing with 700+ teams and 19,000+ players is impressive, and the inclusion of women's football is overdue but welcome. Cross-play functionality works well. However, Ultimate Team remains the game's profit engine, and its loot-box-adjacent card pack system continues to encourage spending in ways that border on exploitative, particularly given the young audience. Career Mode receives incremental updates that never match the community's requests. Year-over-year improvements are modest, making annual purchases feel wasteful. The Switch version is notably inferior. Stripped of the FIFA branding, the game must stand on its gameplay merits, and while those merits exist, they are increasingly overshadowed by aggressive monetization and iterative stagnation.
