Tetris Effect: Connected proves that a 40-year-old puzzle game can still be reinvented in profoundly moving ways. Every piece placement, line clear, and T-spin generates musical notes and visual effects that make you feel like you are composing and performing simultaneously. In VR, the experience is genuinely overwhelming -- this is one of the strongest arguments for the medium. The Connected multiplayer mode, where three players share a matrix against AI bosses, is inventive and surprisingly emotional. The core Tetris gameplay remains, of course, perfect. The criticism is primarily one of value -- this is still Tetris, and the audiovisual wrapper, however extraordinary, may not justify the price for players who simply want to stack blocks.
