Shredder's Revenge is everything a nostalgia-driven beat 'em up revival should be, and then some. Tribute Games nails the exact look of the 1987 cartoon down to background cameos, while modernizing combat with dodges, juggles, and taunts that give the genre real depth beyond mashing attack. Six-player co-op keeps the arcade spirit alive, and each character's distinct stats and super moves add welcome variety across replays. The Wu-Tang Clan soundtrack contributions are a genuinely inspired touch that elevates the whole package. Story mode's light upgrade system adds a bit of progression incentive without overcomplicating what's fundamentally an arcade experience, and it is fundamentally that: a relatively short romp best enjoyed in short, social bursts rather than one long sitting. Some may find the difficulty curve a touch soft on normal settings. Even so, this is one of the finest licensed games and beat 'em up revivals of the modern era.
