Boss-gated biome progression gives clear direction to what could otherwise be an aimless sandbox, and food-based buffing wisely replaces the punishing hunger meters that plague the genre. Co-op with up to ten players is where it truly shines, sailing longships and raiding together creates memorable, chaotic moments. The game leans on third-party voice chat rather than robust in-game communication tools, and content updates, while steady, have arrived more slowly than some players hoped since the early access boom. Even with those rough edges, it remains one of the genre's most inviting and replayable co-op experiences.
