Nothing about it is precise: brew temperature varies pot to pot and generally runs below the SCA window, the glass carafe is thin, the hotplate stews whatever sits on it, and the machine itself is a two-to-four-year appliance, not an investment. It takes the last spot in this ranking rather than missing the list entirely because its job description is different from every machine above it: dorm rooms, offices, rentals, and cabins need exactly this — reliable caffeine from a machine cheap enough to leave behind. Every pick ranked higher makes better coffee; none of them makes coffee for $40. If your budget stretches even to $90, the Cuisinart DCC-3200 is a clear upgrade.
