Ronin Network

Ronin Network is a purpose-built EVM-compatible blockchain originally developed by Sky Mavis to support Axie Infinity, one of crypto gaming's most iconic titles. Utilizing Delegated Proof of Stake consensus, Ronin delivers fast, low-cost transactions essential for gaming use cases where microtransactions and NFT interactions are frequent. The network has since expanded beyond Axie Infinity to host multiple gaming titles, positioning itself as a dedicated gaming infrastructure layer. Its RON token serves governance and staking functions, anchoring the ecosystem's economic model. Strengths include a proven track record in onboarding millions of gaming users, strong developer focus on gaming-specific tooling, and a growing ecosystem of titles. However, concerns persist around the 2022 bridge exploit ($625M hack), which raised serious questions about validator centralization and security practices. While improvements have been made, the relatively small validator set compared to major L1s remains a risk factor. As a general-purpose Ethereum L2, Ronin is less competitive, but within its gaming niche, it remains a dominant and well-established player with meaningful adoption metrics.
