Daiwa is a Japanese fishing tackle brand established in 1958, when Daiwa Seiko began producing spinning reels in Tokyo. The brand grew into one of the world's largest manufacturers of fishing reels, rods, lures, and terminal tackle, and since 2009 it has been the flagship brand of Globeride Inc., headquartered in Higashikurume, Tokyo. Daiwa's reel lineup spans entry-level models such as the BG and Crossfire through mid-range workhorses like the Tatula and Certate to the flagship Exist spinning reel and Saltiga series built for offshore big-game fishing. The company has introduced numerous reel technologies, including the Magforce magnetic cast-control system for baitcasters, Zaion carbon composite body material, and the LT (Light and Tough) design concept that reduced spinning reel weight without sacrificing rigidity. Daiwa also produces an extensive range of rods for bass, surf, jigging, and match fishing, and its products are distributed through regional subsidiaries in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. Parent company Globeride is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and also manufactures golf, tennis, and cycling equipment, though fishing tackle under the Daiwa name accounts for the bulk of its business.
