Ubisoft Montpellier built a metroidvania that stands shoulder to shoulder with the genre's best, with time-warping traversal tools like the Simurgh dash and dimensional shadow-swap enabling platforming gauntlets that are demanding without ever feeling unfair. Combat has real technicality, air juggles, parries, and Athra surge finishers give Sargon a moveset with genuine depth for players willing to learn it. What impresses most is the accessibility design: memory shards that auto-photograph the map solve metroidvania backtracking confusion elegantly, and adjustable assists let newcomers in without watering down the core experience for veterans. Mount Qaf's interconnected citadel is a joy to map mentally, dense with secrets and shortcuts that reward exploration. Story and characterization are serviceable rather than gripping, Sargon and the Immortals don't leave a lasting impression the way the mechanics do. Still, as a demonstration of precise platforming and combat design, this is one of the finest metroidvanias in years and a genuine series revival.
