Silversea Cruises is an ultra-luxury and expedition cruise line founded in 1994 by the Lefebvre family of Rome, Italy. The line is headquartered in Monaco. Silversea distinguishes itself through its intimate ship sizes, all-suite accommodations, and a port-intensive itinerary philosophy that emphasizes cultural immersion and destination access over sea days.
In 2018, Royal Caribbean Group acquired a 66.7 percent stake in Silversea, subsequently increasing its ownership to full control. The acquisition provided capital for fleet expansion while Silversea maintained operational independence and its positioning in the ultra-luxury segment.
Silversea's fleet is divided between its classic ships and its expedition vessels. The classic fleet includes Silver Dawn, Silver Nova, Silver Ray, Silver Moon, Silver Muse, Silver Spirit, and Silver Shadow, carrying between approximately 300 and 700 guests in all-suite configurations. The expedition fleet includes Silver Endeavour, Silver Cloud, Silver Origin, Silver Wind, and Silver Explorer, purpose-built or adapted for polar, Galapagos, and remote-destination voyaging. Silversea's expedition program was among the first luxury lines to offer expedition cruising in the Antarctic and Arctic.
Fares on Silversea include butler service in all suites, dining across multiple restaurants, beverages including wines and spirits, gratuities, and Wi-Fi. The line's partnership with Relais & Chateaux enhances its culinary offerings. Silversea voyages typically begin above $4,000 per person for shorter itineraries, with expedition and extended voyages priced significantly higher.
