Chevrolet is an American automobile brand and the largest division of General Motors, founded in 1911 in Detroit, Michigan, by Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet and GM founder William C. Durant. The brand was acquired by General Motors in 1918 and became the company's high-volume mainstream marque, competing directly with Ford throughout the twentieth century. Chevrolet vehicles are sold in dozens of markets worldwide, and the brand has produced some of the most iconic American vehicles, including the Corvette sports car in continuous production since 1953, the Camaro muscle car, the Impala, and the Suburban, which holds the record as the longest-running continuously produced nameplate in automotive history, dating to 1935. The Silverado full-size pickup is consistently among the best-selling vehicles in the United States. Chevrolet's current lineup spans the Equinox and Traverse crossovers, the Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs, the Colorado and Silverado trucks, and a growing electric range that includes the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV. The mid-engine C8 Corvette, introduced in 2020, marked a major redesign of the brand's flagship sports car. Chevrolet's bowtie logo, introduced in 1913, remains one of the most recognized automotive emblems in the world.
