Nissan Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer headquartered in Yokohama, Japan. The company was established in 1933 by Yoshisuke Aikawa, with roots tracing back to the Kwaishinsha Motor Car Works founded in 1911, which produced the DAT car that gave rise to the Datsun name. Nissan sold vehicles under the Datsun brand in many export markets for decades before consolidating under the Nissan name in the 1980s. Today Nissan is one of the largest automakers in the world, selling around three million vehicles annually in more than 150 markets, and is a member of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Its lineup includes the Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs, the Altima and Sentra sedans, the Frontier pickup, and performance models such as the Z and the GT-R. Nissan was an early mover in mass-market electric vehicles, launching the Leaf in 2010, which for years ranked as the world's best-selling electric car, and has since added the Ariya electric crossover. The company also operates the Infiniti luxury brand. Nissan runs manufacturing operations in Japan, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and other countries, with its Smyrna, Tennessee plant among the highest-volume auto factories in North America.
