KEF is a British loudspeaker manufacturer founded in 1961 by Raymond Cooke OBE in Tovil, Maidstone, Kent, England. The company name derives from Kent Engineering and Foundry, the metal fabrication facility where Cooke first set up his loudspeaker workshop. KEF was acquired by Gold Peak Group (GP Industries) of Hong Kong in 1992 and remains under their ownership. The company maintains its engineering and design facility in Maidstone while manufacturing is split between the UK and Asia.

KEF's product line includes floor-standing and bookshelf loudspeakers, subwoofers, wireless speakers, soundbars, custom installation speakers, and headphones. The Reference and Blade series represent the flagship offerings, while the LS50 bookshelf speaker (introduced in 2012 to commemorate the company's 50th anniversary) became one of the most acclaimed compact speakers of its generation. The LS60 Wireless, launched in 2022, integrates amplification, DAC, and streaming capabilities into a floor-standing loudspeaker.

The company's signature technology is the Uni-Q driver array, developed in the late 1980s, which places the tweeter at the acoustic center of the midrange cone. This coaxial arrangement allows both drivers to radiate sound from the same point, resulting in more consistent dispersion across the listening area. KEF has refined this technology through multiple generations, with the current 12th-generation Uni-Q driver featuring a novel metamaterial absorption technology (MAT) developed in partnership with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group, which eliminates unwanted sound radiation from the rear of the tweeter.

Products range from approximately $300 for entry-level bookshelf speakers to over $28,000 per pair for the Blade loudspeaker and $35,000+ for the Muon, a sculptural floor-standing speaker designed by Ross Lovegrove. KEF has won numerous industry awards including multiple What Hi-Fi and Stereophile product-of-the-year awards. The company holds over 50 patents related to driver and acoustic design technologies.
