Krug

Krug is a prestige champagne house founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a German-born winemaker who settled in Reims, France. The house is owned by LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton and is widely regarded by critics and collectors as one of the finest champagne producers in the world. Krug's winemaking philosophy distinguishes it from virtually all other champagne houses: the foundation of its production is Krug Grande Cuvee, a multi-vintage blend composed of more than 120 wines from ten or more different vintages spanning over a decade. This approach prioritizes complexity and consistency over vintage character, and each edition of Grande Cuvee is identified by a unique edition number. The house also produces Krug Vintage, made from a single exceptional year; Krug Rose, a multi-vintage rose of unusual depth; and Krug Clos du Mesnil and Krug Clos d'Ambonnay, single-vineyard champagnes produced in extremely limited quantities from walled plots in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Ambonnay respectively. All Krug champagnes undergo fermentation in small oak casks, a traditional practice that the house has maintained since its founding and that contributes to the wines' distinctive richness and complexity. Every bottle carries a Krug ID, a six-digit code that can be entered on the brand's website or app to reveal detailed information about the wine's composition and aging. Bottles of Krug Grande Cuvee typically retail above $200, with single-vineyard expressions commanding prices well into the thousands.
