My Father Cigars was founded by Jose 'Pepin' Garcia, a Cuban master cigar roller who emigrated from Cuba to Miami, Florida in 2001. Garcia had worked in Cuba's cigar industry for decades, including at the prestigious El Rey del Mundo and H. Upmann factories. After arriving in the United States, he quickly established himself by founding El Rey de los Habanos factory in Little Havana, Miami, producing boutique cigars that gained a cult following. In 2009, he launched the My Father brand, named in his honor by his son Jaime Garcia.

The company operates two factories: the original My Father Cigars S.A. factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, which opened in 2009, and the Garcia family's operations in Miami. All My Father branded cigars are produced in Nicaragua using Nicaraguan tobaccos from the Jalapa, Condega, and Esteli regions. Garcia's blending style is known for bold, complex flavor profiles. Key lines include the flagship My Father Le Bijou 1922 (which won Cigar Aficionado's #1 Cigar of the Year in 2015), My Father Flor de las Antillas (which won #1 Cigar of the Year in 2012), and the Don Pepin Garcia original series.

Jaime Garcia, Pepin's son, has become a celebrated blender in his own right, creating lines such as the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial. The Garcia family also manufactures cigars for several other well-known brands at their Esteli factory, including Tatuaje, L'Atelier, and HVC, making them one of the most influential factory operators in the Nicaraguan cigar industry.

My Father Cigars has earned more Cigar Aficionado #1 Cigar of the Year awards in a shorter timespan than nearly any other brand. The company remains family-owned and operated, with Pepin Garcia continuing to oversee blending and production. The brand is positioned in the high-luxury segment, with most cigars priced between $10 and $20 per stick.
