Skechers is an American footwear company founded in 1992 by Robert Greenberg and his son Michael in Manhattan Beach, California, where it remains headquartered. Originally a distributor of utility boots and skate shoes, the company shifted to designing its own casual and athletic footwear and grew into the third-largest athletic footwear company in the world by revenue, behind Nike and adidas. Skechers built its position on comfort-focused technologies marketed at accessible prices, including Memory Foam insoles, Arch Fit support systems, and the Hands Free Slip-ins line that lets wearers step into shoes without touching them. The brand sells lifestyle, work, running, walking, golf, and kids' footwear along with apparel, and its endorsers have ranged from Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart to professional athletes in basketball, golf, and soccer, including Joel Embiid and Harry Kane. Skechers reported annual revenue of about nine billion dollars in 2024, sells in approximately 180 countries and territories, and operates thousands of company- and licensee-owned retail stores worldwide. In 2025 the company was acquired by investment firm 3G Capital in a deal valued at more than nine billion dollars, ending its run as a public company while the Greenberg family continued to lead management.
