DaVinci Resolve is a professional video editing and color-grading application developed by Blackmagic Design. It combines nonlinear video editing, color correction, visual effects and motion graphics (Fusion), and audio post-production (Fairlight) in a single application, making it widely used in film, television, and YouTube production pipelines. Its color-grading tools originated from DaVinci Systems' hardware color correctors and remain an industry standard in Hollywood post-production.
The software is aimed at professional editors, colorists, and independent creators who need high-end editing and grading tools without licensing multiple separate applications. The free version includes most core editing, color, and effects features, while DaVinci Resolve Studio adds neural engine AI tools, additional format support, higher-resolution processing, and collaboration features for a one-time license fee rather than a subscription.
DaVinci Resolve runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and Blackmagic Design also offers DaVinci Resolve for iPad. The desktop app can be downloaded and used without creating an account, and includes a built-in Python and Lua scripting API for automating editing and color workflows.
