Gagosian is a contemporary art gallery founded in 1980 by Larry Gagosian in Los Angeles, California. The gallery opened its first space on La Brea Avenue, initially focusing on emerging and mid-career contemporary artists before expanding to represent some of the most prominent names in modern and contemporary art. Gagosian has grown into one of the largest and most influential commercial art galleries in the world.
The gallery operates approximately eighteen locations across the United States, Europe, and Asia, including multiple spaces in New York City (on Madison Avenue, West 21st Street, West 24th Street, and in the Meatpacking District), as well as locations in London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Geneva, Basel, Hong Kong, and other cities. Gagosian represents and exhibits works by a roster of internationally renowned artists, both living and deceased, including names such as Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Richard Serra, Takashi Murakami, Ed Ruscha, and the estates of Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, and Andy Warhol, among others.
