Hollow Knight: Silksong

Six years of anticipation is an enormous weight for any sequel to carry, and Silksong not only meets it, it justifies nearly every year of that wait. Hornet is a fundamentally different protagonist from the Knight: faster, more acrobatic, and built around needle combat and silk-powered traversal that rewards aggression rather than caution. The crafting system for tools and traps adds genuine build variety to what was already one of the most mechanically rich combat systems in the metroidvania space. Team Cherry's hand-drawn art direction and Christopher Larkin's score remain a class above nearly every competitor, and Pharloom's haunted, silk-draped kingdom is as atmospheric and hostile as Hallownest ever was. The boss gauntlets push difficulty further than the original, which will thrill series veterans but may punish newcomers expecting a gentler on-ramp. Some late-game backtracking echoes the pacing complaints of the first game. Even so, this is a masterfully crafted sequel that expands and refines an already-beloved formula, and it firmly cements Team Cherry among the genre's very best.
