GCI Outdoor Waterside Beach Rocker

3.9
product Overall
The Waterside Beach Rocker owns a niche of exactly one: no other beach chair rocks. GCI's spring-action pistons produce a smooth, genuine rocking motion even on sand, and for two groups of people that single feature outweighs everything else on the spec sheet — parents soothing a baby to sleep at the shore, and anyone who simply cannot sit still in a static chair. The supporting cast is solid: a lowered beach-appropriate seat, a mesh backrest that moves air on hot days, padded armrests, and Eazy-Fold construction that packs the whole thing flat for the trunk. The compromises are real, though. The backrest does not recline at all, so this is a sit-up-and-watch-the-waves chair, not a napping chair. Capacity tops out at 250 pounds, below the 300-pound ratings of the category leaders. And at 10.8 pounds with only a carry handle — no backpack straps — the walk from the parking lot is noticeably less pleasant than with the strap-equipped competition. If rocking is the feature you have been missing, nothing else delivers it and the $55-70 price is fair. If you want recline range or a long carry, the conventional picks above it serve better.
