Google Home is a smart home control app developed by Google LLC, founded in 1998 and headquartered in Mountain View, California. It is the primary companion app for Google Nest devices, Chromecast, Google Wi-Fi, and thousands of third-party smart home products that support Google's ecosystem.
The app lets users set up and organize smart devices by room, control lights, plugs, thermostats, cameras, locks, and speakers from a single dashboard, view live camera feeds and activity history, and create automations and routines that trigger multiple devices at once, such as a "Good Night" routine that locks doors and turns off lights. It integrates with Google Assistant and, more recently, Gemini for voice control, and supports the Matter smart home standard for cross-brand compatibility.
Google Home is intended for households setting up and managing smart home devices, ranging from a single smart speaker to a fully automated multi-room setup, and works alongside Google Nest hardware such as thermostats, doorbells, and smart displays.
The app is available on iOS, Android, and a limited web dashboard. It is free to download and use; costs come from purchasing compatible smart home hardware, and an optional Nest Aware subscription adds extended camera video history and additional AI-based alerts.
