Raid battles and PvP leagues add real depth for committed trainers, while trading and Switch connectivity tie it meaningfully into the wider Pokemon ecosystem. The cracks show in monetization, box space, incense, remote raid passes stack up fast, and progress increasingly nudges toward spending rather than pure play. Technical hiccups, GPS drift, server strain during major events, and heavy battery drain remain persistent annoyances nearly ten years on. It's less essential than it was at 2016's cultural peak, but as a template for location-based AR gaming, nothing else has come close to replicating what Pokemon GO built.
