Dom Perignon

Dom Perignon is a prestige cuvee champagne produced by Moet & Chandon, a house within the LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton luxury group. The brand is named after Dom Pierre Perignon, a Benedictine monk who served as cellar master at the Abbey of Hautvillers in the Champagne region of France from 1668 to 1715. While popular legend credits him with inventing champagne, his actual contributions involved significant advancements in viticulture and winemaking techniques. The first commercial vintage of Dom Perignon was the 1921, released in 1936 by Moet & Chandon. Dom Perignon operates under the strict principle of producing only vintage champagne, meaning every bottle is made exclusively from grapes harvested in a single exceptional year. In years when the harvest does not meet the brand's quality standards, no Dom Perignon is produced. Each vintage undergoes a minimum of seven years of aging on lees before release, with Oenotheque (now P2 and P3) expressions receiving significantly longer maturation periods of approximately 16 and 25 years respectively. The wine is produced at the historic Abbey of Hautvillers in Epernay, France, under the direction of the Chef de Cave. Dom Perignon has maintained collaborations with artists and designers for limited edition packaging, including partnerships with Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons, and Iris van Herpen. A standard vintage bottle typically retails above $200, with P2 and P3 releases commanding substantially higher prices.
