Ledger Live, recently rebranded Ledger Wallet in app store listings, is the companion app for Ledger hardware wallets, made by Ledger SAS, a hardware wallet manufacturer founded in 2014 and headquartered in Paris, France. It is available for iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux.
The app itself does not hold private keys; instead, it manages accounts, balances, and transactions for coins and tokens whose private keys remain secured inside a connected Ledger hardware device, such as the Nano S Plus, Nano X, Stax, or Flex, which physically confirms each transaction. Ledger Live supports tracking and transacting with more than 15,000 cryptocurrencies and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, and lets users buy, sell, swap, and stake supported assets directly through integrated third-party providers, in addition to viewing NFTs and portfolio value. Mobile devices connect to Ledger hardware wallets via Bluetooth on supported models or USB-C.
Ledger Live is free to download and use as an app; a Ledger hardware wallet, sold separately and typically priced $79-$279, is required to actually secure funds, and Ledger or its partners may charge fees on in-app buy, sell, and swap services. It does not require a traditional account, though Ledger offers an optional paid recovery service, Ledger Recover, tied to identity verification.
