Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action RPG developed by CD Projekt Red, based on the Cyberpunk tabletop universe created by Mike Pondsmith. Players become V, a mercenary in the dystopian megacity of Night City, customizing their character's cyberware, skills, and playstyle across gunplay, hacking, and stealth. The game features a branching narrative with Keanu Reeves starring as the digital construct Johnny Silverhand. After a famously troubled launch in 2020, years of updates and the acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion transformed it into one of gaming's great redemption stories. The 2.0 overhaul reworked skill trees, cyberware, and police systems, and the game has now sold over 30 million copies alongside a hit anime adaptation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

Cyberpunk 2077 in its current, post-2.0 state is a genuinely different game from the one that launched in 2020, and it's worth judging that way. Night City remains one of the most densely realized open worlds ever built, vertical, neon-soaked, and dense with environmental storytelling that rewards simply wandering. The 2.0 overhaul fixed what mattered most: skill trees now support real build diversity between netrunner hacking, gunplay, and melee cyberware, and the reworked police and vehicle combat systems finally match the ambition of the setting. Johnny Silverhand and V's central relationship remains the emotional core, and Phantom Liberty's espionage-thriller expansion is genuinely some of CDPR's best writing to date. Performance on current-gen hardware is now largely stable, though older systems and edge cases still surface bugs occasionally. It took years and a hit anime tie-in to get here, but Cyberpunk 2077 has completed one of the industry's most remarkable turnarounds and now stands as a genuinely excellent, if imperfect, open-world RPG.
