BMW Motorrad is the motorcycle division of BMW Group, producing motorcycles and scooters since 1923, when the first BMW motorcycle, the R 32, was introduced at the Paris Motor Show. The division is headquartered in Munich, Germany, with its primary manufacturing facility in Berlin-Spandau, and additional production plants in Manaus, Brazil, Rayong, Thailand, and Chennai, India. BMW Motorrad is distinguished by its long-standing use of the boxer twin-cylinder engine layout, in which horizontally opposed cylinders provide a low center of gravity and smooth power delivery. While the boxer engine remains a signature of the brand, the current lineup also includes inline-four, parallel-twin, and single-cylinder powertrains across various model families. The product range is extensive: the R series features boxer engines for touring and adventure riding, the S 1000 RR is a world-class superbike, the F series offers middleweight adventure and touring options, the G series provides entry-level accessibility, the K series delivers luxury touring with inline-four power, the M series represents the highest-performance variants, and the CE series introduces electric mobility. The R 1300 GS, the latest evolution of BMW's iconic adventure touring motorcycle, continues to be one of the best-selling large-displacement motorcycles in the world. BMW Motorrad also produces the C series of premium scooters for urban mobility. The division sells approximately 200,000 vehicles annually across more than 100 markets worldwide, maintaining its position as one of the largest and most technologically advanced motorcycle manufacturers globally.
