Graf von Faber-Castell is the luxury division of the Faber-Castell Group, one of the world's oldest industrial companies. The Faber-Castell enterprise was founded in 1761 by Kaspar Faber in Stein near Nuremberg, Germany, making it over 260 years old. The Graf von Faber-Castell luxury line was formally established to represent the company's premium offerings, drawing on the family heritage of Count Anton-Wolfgang von Faber-Castell, the eighth generation of the Faber-Castell family to lead the company.
Graf von Faber-Castell produces luxury writing instruments including fountain pens, ballpoint pens, rollerballs, mechanical pencils, and desk accessories. The brand's collections include the Classic, Intuition, Tamitio, Guilloche, and Pen of the Year series. The Pen of the Year, introduced in 2003, is an annual limited-edition writing instrument featuring rare materials and historical themes, with past editions incorporating elements such as petrified wood, mammoth ivory, samurai-inspired design, Aztec gold, and Viking-era motifs. Each Pen of the Year is produced in a limited quantity and numbered.
Materials used across the range include grenadilla wood, ebony, pernambuco, platinum-plated metal, sterling silver, and hand-stitched leather. The Perfect Pencil, a signature product, encases a standard Faber-Castell pencil in a platinum-plated or sterling silver extender with an integrated sharpener and eraser under the cap.
Graf von Faber-Castell also produces luxury leather accessories including desk sets, portfolios, notebooks, cases, and travel accessories. Products are sold through the brand's own boutiques, authorized luxury retailers, premium stationery shops, and its e-commerce platform.
