Kaspa is a proof-of-work Layer 1 cryptocurrency that implements the GHOSTDAG protocol, a generalization of the Nakamoto consensus that allows blocks created in parallel to coexist rather than be orphaned. Unlike traditional blockchains where only one block can be added at a time, Kaspa's blockDAG structure enables multiple blocks per second, achieving high throughput while maintaining the security guarantees of proof-of-work. The network currently processes one block per second with plans for further speed increases. Kaspa is notable for being a fair-launch project with no pre-mine, no ICO, and no token allocation to insiders, following Bitcoin's ethos of decentralized, community-driven development. The project was conceptualized by Yonatan Sompolinsky, a leading researcher in blockchain consensus who also contributed to Ethereum's GHOST protocol.
