Off-White is an Italian luxury streetwear brand founded in 2012 by American designer Virgil Abloh in Milan, Italy. Abloh, who held a degree in architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology and had previously interned at Fendi alongside Kanye West, launched the label as a bridge between high fashion and street culture. The brand's visual identity is defined by its use of diagonal stripes, quotation marks on product labels, and industrial-inspired design elements such as zip ties and hazard tape motifs.
Off-White gained rapid prominence through its ready-to-wear collections for men and women, which debuted at Paris Fashion Week. The brand expanded into footwear, accessories, handbags, and home goods. A landmark collaboration with Nike, beginning in 2017 with The Ten collection, produced some of the most sought-after sneakers in the secondary market and cemented Off-White's position at the intersection of luxury and streetwear.
Virgil Abloh passed away in November 2021. In 2021, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton acquired a 60 percent stake in Off-White, with Abloh's family and New Guards Group, the Milan-based production and distribution platform that had manufactured the brand since its inception, retaining the remaining shares. Ibrahim Kamara was appointed art and image director in 2022.
Off-White operates standalone boutiques in cities including Milan, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo, and Beijing, and sells through its e-commerce platform and select luxury retailers. Ready-to-wear items typically range from $300 to $2,500, with handbags and collaborative sneaker releases commanding higher prices on the resale market.
