Visconti is an Italian maker of fine writing instruments founded in Florence in 1988 by Dante Del Vecchio and Luigi Poli, two collectors who set out to revive historic pen-making materials and techniques. The company remains headquartered in Florence, where its pens are designed and produced.
Visconti built its reputation on the revival of celluloid and the development of distinctive proprietary materials. Its best-known line, Homo Sapiens, introduced in 2010, is made from a material incorporating basaltic lava from Mount Etna blended with resin. Other signature collections include the Van Gogh series, whose variegated resins interpret the painter's works, the Medici with its octagonal Florentine architecture-inspired design, and the Divina based on the golden ratio.
The brand is also known for technical inventions such as its double reservoir power filler and hook safe locking cap system, and for bridge-shaped clips inspired by Florence's Ponte Vecchio. Pens range from accessible resin models to limited editions in precious metals, celluloid, and unusual materials at prices reaching well into five figures.
Visconti sells through authorized dealers worldwide and its own online boutique, and also produces watches, leather goods, and inks. The company continues to emphasize its Florentine identity, with design and production rooted in the city's craft traditions.
