Nioh 2

Nioh 2 is a combat system dressed up as a game, and that's high praise. Team Ninja built something genuinely unmatched here: three stances per weapon, ki-pulse timing that turns every exchange into a rhythmic gamble, Burst Counters against yokai, and soul cores that let you graft enemy abilities onto your own build. The sheer density of systems can feel overwhelming early on, but once it clicks, few action games reward mastery this thoroughly. Loot and skill trees add Diablo-style build variety on top of the demanding action, giving dedicated players dozens of hours across NG+ cycles and the punishing Abyss. Story is functional Sengoku-era yokai lore rather than a genuine hook, and mission-based level design lacks the interconnected elegance of Soulsborne worlds, favoring bite-sized replayable stages over grand exploration. Visuals and performance are solid without being spectacular. None of that matters much once you're deep in a boss fight, timing a perfect Burst Counter. For players who want combat mastery above all else, Nioh 2 The Complete Edition remains one of the genre's essential experiences.
