Cascade Mountain Tech Carbon Fiber Quick Lock Trekking Poles

4.2
product Overall
No pole in this comparison delivers more function per dollar. For roughly $40-60 — a quarter of the price of premium carbon poles — you get genuine carbon fiber shafts, external quick-lock levers, cork or EVA grip options, and a bag of accessories (rubber tips, snow baskets, mud baskets) that most premium brands sell separately. The measured weight of around 480 g per pair with cork grips is unremarkable for carbon, but the poles are stiff, the locks hold when properly tensioned, and thousands of thru-hikers have finished long trails on them. Andrew Skurka famously recommended them as the rational choice for most hikers, and the value case has only strengthened since. The compromises are where you would expect. Quality control is less consistent than Leki or Black Diamond — lever tension can need periodic re-tightening with the small adjustment nut, and the grips are shaped more generically than an Aergon or Pursuit grip. There is no meaningful warranty support network, so a broken section usually means a replacement pair rather than a spare part. But at this price, replacing a pair after several seasons still costs less than one premium pole. For new hikers, occasional hikers, or anyone testing whether they even like poles, this is the obvious starting point.
