Gieves & Hawkes is a British luxury menswear brand formed from the 2012 merger of two historic tailoring firms: Gieves, founded in 1771 as a naval tailor, and Hawkes & Co, founded in 1771 as a military tailor. The combined firm operates from the prestigious No. 1 Savile Row address, a location it has occupied since 1912. Gieves & Hawkes holds Royal Warrants from three members of the British royal family.
The house has deep roots in British military tailoring, having supplied uniforms to the Royal Navy and British Army for over 200 years. Admiral Lord Nelson's uniforms were made by Gieves, and the firm outfitted officers for both World Wars. This military heritage informs the house's civilian tailoring, which is characterized by structured shoulders, a defined waist, and clean lines. The bespoke service starts at approximately 4,500 GBP for a two-piece suit.
Gieves & Hawkes operates a three-tier offering: a full bespoke service executed by in-house cutters and tailors, a made-to-measure service, and a ready-to-wear collection. The bespoke operation continues traditional handwork methods, while the ready-to-wear line extends the brand to a broader market. The firm also produces shirts, accessories, and formal evening wear.
The brand was acquired by Hong Kong-based Trinity Group in 2012, which expanded its retail presence in Asia. Following Trinity Group's financial difficulties, the brand's ownership and operations have undergone restructuring. The bespoke tailoring service at No. 1 Savile Row continues to operate as the core of the business.
