Lotus Cars is a British manufacturer of sports cars and racing cars founded by Colin Chapman in 1948, headquartered in Hethel, Norfolk, England. The company has been a subsidiary of Geely Holding Group since 2017, following the Chinese automotive conglomerate's acquisition of a majority stake from previous owner Proton. Lotus has a distinguished motorsport heritage, having won seven Formula One Constructors' Championships and six Drivers' Championships between 1962 and 1978. Colin Chapman's engineering philosophy of adding lightness through innovative design rather than adding power has remained central to the brand's identity for over seven decades. The current Lotus lineup spans from the Emira, the company's final internal combustion sports car featuring a mid-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder or supercharged V6 engine, to the Evija, a fully electric hypercar producing approximately 2,000 horsepower. The Eletre, launched in 2023, marks Lotus's entry into the luxury electric SUV market and is produced at a new facility in Wuhan, China. The Emeya, an electric four-door GT sedan, further expands the range.
