Meridian Audio is a British high-end audio manufacturer founded in 1977 by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The company built its reputation on combining industrial design with digital audio engineering and is regarded as a pioneer of DSP-based active loudspeakers.

Meridian produced one of the first audiophile CD players and went on to develop digital signal processing loudspeakers in which amplification and crossovers are handled digitally inside the cabinet. Its DSP loudspeaker range, including the flagship DSP8000, remains central to the brand, alongside streaming components, processors, and compact systems. Co-founder Bob Stuart also co-created the MQA audio codec, which originated from work at Meridian.

The company has an extensive automotive presence: Meridian has been the audio partner of Jaguar Land Rover, with its sound systems fitted across Range Rover and Jaguar models, and has partnered with other automakers on premium in-car audio. These partnerships have made Meridian one of the more widely experienced British audio brands even outside dedicated hi-fi circles.

Meridian designs and engineers its products in the UK and sells through authorized dealers and custom installation specialists worldwide. Its systems are used in dedicated listening rooms, luxury residences, and marine installations, with complete DSP loudspeaker systems reaching six-figure configurations.

Meridian's real distinction in high-end audio is being early and genuinely influential on the technical side rather than the material side, pioneering DSP-based active loudspeakers and producing one of the first audiophile CD players well before digital signal processing was standard practice in hi-fi. Bob Stuart's later co-creation of the MQA codec reinforces that Meridian's culture is engineering-first, a different value proposition than brands built primarily around cabinetry and materials. The DSP8000 and current loudspeaker range continue that lineage of putting amplification and crossover intelligence inside the cabinet rather than as external components. What broadens Meridian's relevance beyond dedicated audiophiles is its long-standing automotive partnership with Jaguar Land Rover, which has quietly made it one of the more widely heard British audio brands even among people who've never bought a home system. The design language is more understated than flashier competitors, which suits engineering-minded buyers better than those seeking a visual centerpiece, and value at the top of the six-figure system range trails brands with stronger cachet.
