Meridian Audio is a British high-end audio manufacturer founded in 1977 by Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd, based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The company built its reputation on combining industrial design with digital audio engineering and is regarded as a pioneer of DSP-based active loudspeakers.
Meridian produced one of the first audiophile CD players and went on to develop digital signal processing loudspeakers in which amplification and crossovers are handled digitally inside the cabinet. Its DSP loudspeaker range, including the flagship DSP8000, remains central to the brand, alongside streaming components, processors, and compact systems. Co-founder Bob Stuart also co-created the MQA audio codec, which originated from work at Meridian.
The company has an extensive automotive presence: Meridian has been the audio partner of Jaguar Land Rover, with its sound systems fitted across Range Rover and Jaguar models, and has partnered with other automakers on premium in-car audio. These partnerships have made Meridian one of the more widely experienced British audio brands even outside dedicated hi-fi circles.
Meridian designs and engineers its products in the UK and sells through authorized dealers and custom installation specialists worldwide. Its systems are used in dedicated listening rooms, luxury residences, and marine installations, with complete DSP loudspeaker systems reaching six-figure configurations.
