Yamazaki 12 is Suntory's flagship single malt and arguably the whisky that put Japanese whisky on the global map. It delivers a beautifully balanced profile — honeyed fruit, gentle oak, and a subtle floral quality that feels distinctly Japanese in its elegance and restraint. As a lifestyle/luxury item, it occupies an interesting space: prestigious enough to impress, yet approachable enough for someone exploring beyond Scotch. The problem is availability and pricing. What was once a reasonably priced everyday single malt has become a hunt-and-markup bottle, often selling well above its suggested retail price. At MSRP it's excellent value for the quality; at inflated secondary market prices, the calculus changes significantly. The liquid itself remains genuinely lovely — refined without being boring — but you're increasingly paying for hype alongside craftsmanship.
